US warplanes have carried out attacks on militants from the so-called islamic State (IS) in Libya, killing a minimum of thirty individuals.
The targets included an IS coaching camp and a senior Tunisian extremist leader, United States officials said.
Noureddine Chouchane is connected to 2 attacks in Tunisia last year, including an attack that killed thirty Britons.
IS has been in operation in Libya for a few year and the United States estimates it has up to 6,000 fighters there.
Libya remains in chaos over four years once the overthrow of former leader Muammar gaddafi, and is being fought over by a number of groups, including IS.
Sabratha city's mayor same that a building within the city, west of the capital, Tripoli, had been hit.
He put the death count at 41, and said the majority of those killed were Tunisians.
US Defence Secretary Ash Carter last week said the U.S.A. would continue to target militants in Libya.
"We always keep open the choice to do things unilaterally," he told the BBC.
